Satellite Specialist Q-KON Returns to Angola in Strategic Play for Enterprise Connectivity

LUANDA – Q-KON, the South African-headquartered satellite engineering group, has signaled its aggressive return to the Angolan market through a strategic partnership with local IT powerhouse SISTEC. The alliance, announced in early 2026, aims to deploy “Smart Satellite” services across Angola’s vast geography, targeting a growing enterprise segment that remains underserved by traditional terrestrial fiber and mobile networks.

The move marks a significant homecoming for Q-KON, which last maintained an active operational footprint in Angola in 2010. By joining forces with SISTEC—a firm that has dominated the Angolan technology landscape since 1991—Q-KON intends to bypass the logistical hurdles of the interior provinces. The partnership will roll out the “Twoobii” service, a multi-orbit platform that integrates both Geostationary (GEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations, providing the high-speed, low-latency connectivity required for modern digital banking and remote industrial operations.

“Returning to Angola is a moment of pride for Q-KON, affirming our three-decade-long commitment to connecting the African continent,” stated Dawie de Wet, Group CEO for Q-KON. “By combining our advanced multi-orbit Twoobii Smart Satellite Services—which our engineering team has meticulously adapted for Africa’s unique challenges—with SISTEC’s trusted local expertise and market penetration, we are confident in delivering reliable connectivity.”

For SISTEC, the partnership serves as a critical expansion of its turnkey telecommunications portfolio at a time when the Angolan government is pushing for rapid digital decentralization. The “Twoobii” architecture is specifically engineered to handle the “off-grid” demands of the maritime and mining sectors, where consistent uptime is a prerequisite for safety and profitability. By leveraging Q-KON’s technical “bespoke” service profiles, SISTEC can now offer Angolan enterprises a fail-safe backup for fiber or a primary high-capacity link for remote sites.

Industry analysts view the re-entry of Q-KON as a timely challenge to the established mobile operators who have struggled to maintain 4G and 5G service levels in provinces dependent on diesel-powered microwave hops. The introduction of LEO-capable services through this partnership is expected to lower the cost-per-megabit for rural businesses, potentially triggering a surge in the adoption of cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools outside of Luanda.

As Angola continues its transition toward a liberalized, data-driven economy, the Q-KON and SISTEC alliance reflects a broader trend of cross-border collaboration in the SADC region. With the enterprise segment projected to be the fastest-growing node of the Angolan telecom market through 2031, the focus on “Smart” satellite solutions represents a strategic pivot toward infrastructure that is both resilient to local environmental challenges and globally competitive in performance.
